Guys, if you allow me to indulge in some self-promotion. I have recently become a main writer for a new mecha-themed sci-fi setting: Valkyrie.
This world is set around a new miniature wargame, which is now live on Kickstarter. It is a solitaire game with a simple game mechanics that have a lot of depth to it. We have also worked on a set of short stories to flesh out this universe, and if the KS goes well, we'll move on to novels. I would like to invite you to check the page and see if you enjoy it.

My english isen´t good enough(and my patience in addition) to mention the speech, but about the topic, i can try my best:
Mind control is an interesting tool for story telling, in easy ways like psykers and brain infesting worms, if such stuff exists in the specific world, but also as a normal tool for more "normal" SciFi. So propaganda is one of the easyest words for popular mind control. Humans(and for sure most of all aliens) have an bioelectric field, most induced to the brain and it´s functions. So familar people can lern to interpret, and end the lines of the other. This things are limited to intentions, not to real thoughts, but it´s soemthing we would easily call telepathy. And on this way, many things are possible, and easy to explain.
I use this as basic for "psykers", to not bring an total fictional element in a story with normal acting people. That would be like bringing 20 meter tall ants to a human city - an element for sure, but stupid.
Minds, beyond this, are clay that want´s to be formed. Cause it wants to fit, to not be different from functional strucures. So weak people want to fit to the persona of strong people. That´s all. People can call it whatever they want, but so far it´s too easy to say much more about it...i think....
